Bike Trails - Central CA - Watson RealtyCentral California is a great place to explore by bicycle, and fall is the perfect time for a bike ride. It's one of the things our agents love the most about life in the Bakersfield area.

We're just minutes from the Kern River, Sequoia National Forest, and the Sierra Nevada. If you're looking for an opportunity to enjoy some fantastic scenery and get a good workout this fall, you have a lot of great pathways to choose from.

  • Hart Memorial Park - Alfred Harrell Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93308
One of Kern County's oldest parks, Hart Memorial Park was founded in 1929 and spans more than 1,000 acres, including shady picnic areas, a fishing lake, playgrounds, and several miles of multi-use trails. It's all just minutes from these Bakersfield homes for sale. Mountain bikers have many possible routes to choose from, but a perennial favorite is a 6-mile singletrack trail known simply as the "Long Loop," which encircles the park. It can be a hot, dry adventure even in fall, so be sure to bring plenty of water.

  • Kern River Parkway - Bakersfield, CA 93311
Kern River Parkway is a long, narrow natural preserve that cuts straight through the heart of Bakersfield, following the meandering course of the Kern River. A bike path runs the entire 20-mile length of the preserve, offering great views of an ever-changing landscape. You can access the trail at numerous points as it crosses roads and cuts through several city parks in Bakersfield, but if your goal is to pedal the whole parkway, the western trailhead, located on an unnamed road just off State Route 43, is a great place to start.

  • Mountain & River Adventures - 15775 Sierra Way, Kernville, CA 93238
Just a short drive from Bakersfield in the wooded mountains near Kernville, Mountain & River Adventures offers a wild experience for the whole family. A private campground that's open to families and groups of all sizes, Mountain & River Adventures is best known for its pulse-pounding whitewater rafting trips along the Kern River. But they also offer a maze of thrilling mountain biking trails through their hilly woodlands. Bike rentals are also available to campers.

  • Mill Creek Trail - Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93306
Starting at a well-used trailhead on Kern Canyon Road just off State Route 178, the Mill Creek Trail is a great place to get your blood pumping and catch some great mountain views. It's an out-and-back trail, roughly 7.5-miles each way that ascends gently at first, and then more steeply as the trail cuts into the mountains. It's a challenging trek, gaining a little over 4,200 feet in elevation. The Mill Creek trail is equally popular among hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders, so expect to share the trail, especially on a weekend when the weather is mild.

  • Just Outstanding Trail - Rd No 622, Wofford Heights, CA 93285
The vast wilderness of Sequoia National Forest offers endless opportunities for anyone with the will to hit the backroads in search of adventure. The Potato Patch Trail—dubbed the Just Outstanding Trail by local mountain bikers—is one of the best in the Bakersfield area. The trail is just a little over an hour outside the city, and it's a fun, mostly downhill ride just shy of 5 miles long. Along the way, you'll traverse mountain meadows and a well-known section known as the Manzanita Tunnel, where you'll pass beneath a tunnel-like canopy of manzanita trees.
